Bwakeye Inzu [Hello Home]
2010 | Documentary | Burundi
This documentary explores experiences of return and belonging in the context of Burundian repatriation from Tanzania following the 1972 genocide between Hutu and Tutsi communities. My relationship to Burundi began earlier, when I lived in Bujumbura in 2006 with my family while my father worked with MSF. I returned three years later to document a small fragment of the stories I had encountered while traveling in Bururi.

MAKE IT BETTER
Filmed on a mountaintop in Vermont during the COVID-19 lockdown, this video was pulled together with a minimal crew in the wake of quarantine and physical distancing. The production required attentiveness to both public health constraints and the surrounding natural environment, working deliberately to leave no physical trace. The setting, White Rock Mt, functioned as an active presence shaping movement and emotional tone. Director & Editor: Francesca Blanchard
DP / Editor / Colorist: Galin Foley
HAPPY FOR YOU
Shot on a camcorder, this video intentionally limits technical control to embrace intimacy. I prioritized symbolism, memory, and atmosphere over literal interpretation, allowing visuals and sound to operate in a more direct and almost tactile way. Rooted in place and memory, this video is about how the song is felt rather than explained.

DID IT TO MYSELF
Shot across Manhattan and Brooklyn, this video explores isolation within movement. Filmed over the course of a single afternoon, the project unfolded through direct engagement with the city—navigating public transportation, crowds, and everyday urban activity. The use of a Renaissance-era gown suggests a sense of dislocation, allowing fiction to intersect with lived public space. The camera operates from inside this urban setting rather than above it.

FIELD NOTES
Audiovisual field notes—exploratory, process-based, and episodic. Recorded as informal conversations rather than structured interviews, I aim to explore proximity, listening, and relational presence. These pieces reflect an interest in everyday articulations of belonging and finding one’s place across different personal and geographic contexts. This is the early beginnings of a mini series on belonging within domestic frameworks.
